An EV Still Needs a Shop, Just a Different List of Work
Quick Takeaways
- Model years we service: 2022 to present — Q4 40 and 50 e-tron (2022–2023), Q4 45 and 55 e-tron quattro (2024 on), SUV and Sportback.
- What it doesn’t need: oil changes, spark plugs, exhaust work, timing chains, transmission service. The reduction-gear oil is a lifetime fill with no interval.
- What it does need: brake fluid every two years, brake inspection, tires, cabin filter, the 12-volt battery, and A/C that holds up in August.
- Where our work stops: outside the high-voltage pack. Audi covers that battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles, and anything inside it belongs to them.
- What you get: ASE-certified technicians, loaner vehicles, written estimates, and 475+ five-star reviews from Audi, BMW, Porsche, Mercedes and Land Rover owners.
Most Q4 owners assume an independent shop can’t touch the car. We can. What changes isn’t how much work there is, it’s which work — no oil, no plugs, no exhaust, and in their place brakes that corrode from underuse, tires that wear fast under instant torque, and a 12-volt battery that makes the car look broken the morning it quits. Milestone Motors is the independent European and luxury vehicle specialist in Royal Palm Beach, serving Q4 e-tron drivers from Wellington, West Palm Beach, Palm Beach and The Acreage.
What the MEB Platform Changes About Service
The quattro badge on a Q4 is software, not hardware. Volkswagen Group’s MEB platform puts an asynchronous motor on the front axle and a permanent-magnet synchronous motor on the rear, with no driveshaft, no centre differential, nothing mechanical between them. Each motor drives through a single-speed reduction gearbox whose oil is a lifetime fill — no interval, so anyone quoting you one is guessing. A long list of failure points disappears. A shorter, stranger one replaces it, starting at the brakes.

The Q4 e-tron Issues We See Most in South Florida
Regenerative braking is behind more of this than anything else.
- Rotor corrosion. The pads rarely bite hard, so in our humidity the rotor faces surface-rust and pit between drives.
- Uneven pad deposit. Light, infrequent contact lays down a patchy deposit instead of an even transfer film. That’s the shudder and the squeal — not glazing.
- Brake fluid nobody remembers. Two years is the interval whether or not the pedal ever gets used hard.
- 12-volt battery failures. It wakes the car and runs the screens. When it dies you get dead displays and warnings that look far worse than the cause.
- Tire wear. Weight plus instant torque. Rotation matters more here than on a gas SUV.
- Module faults. Infotainment, charge-port and driver-assistance codes that need a scan, not a guess.
The Signs Your Q4 e-tron Is Due
Range is what owners notice first, usually the least alarming symptom on the list. EPA rates the 2024 Q4 55 e-tron quattro at 258 miles, and heat, soft tires and a heavy right foot take a bite out of that long before anything is wrong. Watch the rest. Grinding on the first stop of the morning that never clears. A pedal that feels different. A/C that gives up at a red light. Warnings at startup, a car slow to wake, uneven wear across a tread.
The Maintenance Schedule That Actually Protects a Q4 e-tron
Six items, none of them inside the pack. Brake fluid every two years, mileage irrelevant. Tire rotation every 5,000–7,500 miles, with pressures checked monthly. Cabin filter once a year, twice if you park under oaks. Brake inspection annually, and use the friction brakes deliberately now and then, firmly enough to wipe the rotor face clean. Have the 12-volt load-tested every year past year three, not just measured at rest. An A/C check before summer. That’s the list.
Where Our Work Ends and Audi’s Begins
We stay outside the high-voltage pack, and you hear that before you book. Audi covers the Q4’s battery for 8 years or 100,000 miles from its in-service date, against defects and against excessive capacity loss — Audi’s own coverage, so anything inside the pack is a dealer conversation. Everything around it is ours: brakes, brake fluid, tires, cabin filter, the 12-volt, A/C, module scanning. Our Limited Lifetime Warranty applies to qualifying mechanical and electrical repairs, and on an EV most of what you’ll pay for is maintenance, which that warranty doesn’t cover. We’re on Business Parkway, a straight run west of West Palm Beach, and a loaner keeps your day intact.

Q4 e-tron Questions We Hear in Royal Palm Beach
Does having my Q4 e-tron serviced here affect my Audi warranty?
Routine maintenance at an independent shop does not void your coverage. We document to Audi’s specification so the record stays clean. Coverage inside the high-voltage battery stays with Audi either way.
Does an EV really need anything besides tires?
Yes — brake fluid, brake service, cabin filter, the 12-volt battery and A/C. Shorter list than a gas car. But these are the items owners forget, because nothing prompts them.
My range dropped. Is the battery failing?
Usually not. Heat, tire pressure, wheel size and driving pattern account for most of it, and all four are quick to check. We rule those out before anyone talks about the pack.
Why do the brakes grind when I barely use them?
Because you barely use them. Regen does the slowing, the rotors corrode in our humidity, and the pads leave an uneven deposit instead of a clean transfer film. Deliberate firm stops keep the faces clear.
Do EV tires need anything different?
Rotate more often than on a gas SUV and check pressures monthly. Weight and instant torque chew through the rear tires, and low pressure costs you range and tread at once.
