Coupe, Sportback and Cabriolet Service by Audi Specialists
Quick Takeaways
- Generations we service: B8/B8.5 Coupe (2008–2017) and Cabriolet (2010–2017 in the US); B9 Coupe and Cabriolet (2018–2024) and Sportback (2018–2025); the B10 A5 Sportback (2025–present), which replaces the A4 and runs a 48-volt mild-hybrid 2.0T. S5 too.
- What fails first: On Cabriolets, the convertible top hydraulics and blocked roof drains. Under the hood, the same 2.0T cooling and timing chain items as the A4.
- The Florida factor: UV on the fabric, tropical rain into drain channels that silt up with pollen. Water finds the trunk, then the electronics.
- What you get: ASE-certified technicians, written estimates, loaner vehicles, and our Limited Lifetime Warranty on qualifying mechanical and electrical repairs.
- Diagnostics: Factory-level scanning that reaches the convertible top control unit, not just the engine.
The A5 shares its bones with the A4 and almost none of its personality. Below the beltline they behave alike. Above it, the A5 is a different animal — hydraulics, drain channels and frameless glass no sedan has to think about. That split is where general shops come unstuck. They fix the engine correctly, hand back the keys, and the roof still stops halfway. Milestone Motors is an independent European and luxury vehicle specialist in Royal Palm Beach, and A5s reach us from Wellington, West Palm Beach and The Acreage. Coupe, Sportback, Cabriolet. All three.
The Mechanical Half of an A5 Is an A4
Everything ahead of the firewall follows the A4 playbook. We will keep this short. Longitudinal layout, the 2.0T TFSI and its oil-spec sensitivity, the plastic thermostat housing and water pump, intake carbon from direct injection, and — on 2009–2012 cars — the EA888 Gen 2 timing chain tensioner at the rear of the engine. Driveline splits by generation: B8 and B8.5 cars and the V6 models use a mechanical self-locking centre differential, while B9 2.0T cars run quattro with ultra technology, a clutch pack with a rear-axle decoupler. We confirm which before quoting. Full breakdown on the A4 page.

The Roof and the Frameless Glass Are the A5-Specific Work
The Cabriolet top is a hydraulic system: pump, cylinders, seals, its own control module. It fails the way hydraulics fail. Slowly, then all at once. Fluid stains in the trunk are the early tell; a top that stalls halfway through a cycle is the late one. Drains matter just as much, because once pollen silts them up a storm puts water in the trunk and footwells, where the modules live. Coupe and Sportback owners get their own version. Frameless door glass indexes to the roof every time a door opens, and when that alignment drifts you hear wind noise and find water long before the regulator gives up.
The A5 Problems We See Most in South Florida
Body and roof faults dominate A5 work here. That surprises most owners.
- Convertible top hydraulics. Pump and cylinder seals weep. The top slows, then quits mid-cycle. Usually roof-up, on a hot afternoon.
- Silted roof and cowl drains. Rain plus pollen. Damp carpet and a musty smell after a storm.
- Supercharger snout coupler and intercooler thermostat (S5 3.0T). A worn coupler rattles at idle and gets blamed on a belt tensioner. We verify first.
- A/C compressor and condenser. Near year-round use, plus salt air on the condenser fins. In very hot conditions the EPA puts the A/C penalty at more than 25% of fuel economy, so a straining system shows on the fuel bill as well as in the cabin.
How We Work on an A5, and What the Warranty Covers
Full module scan, freeze-frame data, then physical verification: cycle the top under observation, water-test the seals, pressure-test the cooling system. On any Cabriolet we clear the drains as a matter of course — short job, and the alternative is an electrical diagnosis three months later. Written estimate first, always. We show you the failed part. Loaner when the job runs long. Our Limited Lifetime Warranty applies to qualifying mechanical and electrical repairs; routine maintenance, fluids, wear items, diagnostics, programming, coding and alignments sit outside it. Ask about yours before you authorize.
The Maintenance That Keeps an A5 Out of the Shop
Two habits carry most of the load: shorter oil intervals and clear drains. Oil closer to 7,500 miles than the 10,000 Audi publishes, to Audi’s spec. Brake fluid every two years — the humidity is not negotiable. Plugs at 40,000–55,000 miles, coolant to Audi’s spec with Audi’s coolant, carbon cleaning worth a conversation around 60,000–80,000, S tronic fluid and filter near 40,000 where fitted. Own the Cabriolet? Clear the drains and treat the fabric annually, ahead of hurricane season. Garage-kept cars in West Palm Beach still need it. Pollen does not care where you park.

Audi A5 Service — Common Questions From Royal Palm Beach Owners
Can you repair the convertible top, or is that a dealer job?
We repair it. Pump and cylinder seals, drains, and control module coding when a part is replaced.
Is an A5 the same to service as an A4?
Under the hood, essentially. Everything involving the roof, the frameless glass and the body seals is different, and that is where model-specific experience earns its keep.
My S5 rattles at idle. What is it?
On the supercharged 3.0T, suspect the supercharger snout coupler first. It gets misdiagnosed as a belt tensioner or accessory pulley.
How often should the roof drains be cleared?
Once a year for a car that lives outside in Royal Palm Beach, and always before hurricane season. Minutes of work. It prevents the leak that ruins a module.
Does the new B10 A5 Sportback need different service?
Same shop, different details. It runs a 48-volt mild-hybrid 2.0T, so the electrical side gets more scan-tool attention than a B9 does. Cooling, carbon and brake fluid do not change.
